"NewsCore) – British troops serving in Afghanistan were forced to endure a 42-day Spam diet when their rations were halted by a Taliban attack, according to a report on Friday in U.K. newspaper The Daily Mail .
Industrious army chef Corporal Liam Francis, 26, stirred up several new recipes to try to keep troops’ morale up as they munched the infamous meat product.
“I was surprised what we could do - sweet and sour Spam, Spam fritters, Spam carbonara, Spam stroganoff and Spam stir fry,” said father-of-one Francis from Wiltshire, England.
For a full six weeks, the troops at the forward operating base in Sangin lived on Francis’ Spam-and-field-rations creations before finally receiving fresh supplies.
“The first day off Spam, I prepared battered sausages, chips [french fries] and curry sauce,” the young chef said.
“The Sergeant Major said it was the best meal he had ever had.” - news link 5 feb 2010.
